Historic District
The South Carthay neighborhood was developed in the 1930s with duplexes and fourplexes on the exterior blocks and single-family homes on the interior blocks. The Spanish Colonial Revival duplexes are emblematic of Westside urban chic. The original Spanish style is maintained by historic preservation zoning codes (HPOZ).

Morning Commuter
Riding the Blue Line from Downtown Long Beach to West LA is full of ample opportunities for photograhpic expression and documentary photography. To prevent undue attention from the Sheriffs, I shot with a slow sputter speed, which produced a nice photographic effect.

west ocean 1.5
Over the next year and half I will photographing the construction of a new residential high rise, West Ocean, in downtown Long Beach. If one has not seen the construction of a skyscraper, it is an amazing sight to see. I tried this with limited sucess with the construction of the Camden Development across from City Hall.

I am a city planner in the Los Angeles region and this photoblog chronicles how I responded to the visual elements of the city with an emphasis on architecture, public infrastructure, signage and the public realm.
The pictures on this site were taken with my Nikon 885, unless otherwise noted. My other cameras include a Nikon N75 and a Hoga, but without a scanner they typically do not appear on this site. As I have learned more features in Adobe Photoshop Elements, my picture progressively employ more digital enhancements.
